Diesel Technician

The main purpose of the job is to produce the required labor hours through maintenance and repair work, in accordance with the Company quality and efficiency standards.

Reporting: This position reports to the Team Leader.

Job Objectives:

  • Fault-finding and diagnosis on Volvo Products by interpreting product “under performance” and/or failure.
  • Interpret and implement information in Volvo Manual and Service Literature.
  • By following directives provided in Workshop Manuals, produce work of Volvo acceptable standards.
  • Follow repair, maintenance instructions and specifications as per the manual.
  • Ensure excellence in customer service delivery through meticulously following procedures/processes.
  • Provide comprehensive and accurate reports on diagnosis, assessment of component/part, failures, observations, actions and recommendations.
  • Follow procedures for breakdown work:
    • Liaise with driver before responding to customer breakdowns;
    • Ensure the correct documentation is in place and accurately completed before submission.
  • Compliance to ISO 9001 and other Safety standards.

Qualification & Job Experience

  • Matric/N3.
  • Trade Test Certificate – Qualified Diesel Mechanic.
  • 3 years Dealership experience in maintenance and repairs of heavy commercial vehicles.

Key Competencies

  • Ability to read all relevant measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge/skills to effect correct repair work.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and specifications and put into practice.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English.
  • Computer literacy.

HR Service Centre Manager

The mission of the function is to Coordinate all People Service activities within South Africa which includes payroll, recruitment, contact services and HR administration.

The mission of the position is to manage the timely and accurate execution of Payroll and People Services activities, including policy, procedure, adherence to industrial instruments, reporting and governance, administrative requirements of the employee lifecycle and maintenance of associated systems.

Business/ Financial Management

  • Plan, allocate and manage relevant budget/s.
  • Allocate capital and manage expenditure.
  • Report on operations according to company timelines and standards.
  • Effectively manage and allocate assets and company property.
  • Manage and report on business performance.

Job Objective

  • Tactical triage and advisory support.

  • Manage payroll processing, inclusive of regular pay cycles, incentive payments and taxation.

  • Manage supplier relationships for associated systems and services, including supplier scoping or review activities with internal specialists.

Essential educational and/or training qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Project Management Principles.

Key Competencies

  • Experience in Human Resources services, including payroll processing, industrial labour agreements and salary grades.
  • Experience within customer services environment.
  • Proven track record of leading people.
  • Knowledge and experience with HR and payroll systems – SAP SuccessFactors and PaySpace.
  • MS Office 365 packages.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • High level of customer service acumen.

Engineering & Maintenance Manager

The main purpose of this position is to provide leadership and guidance to the Engineering and Maintenance Organization with goal to industrialize new product, product changes and process changes using lean manufacturing principles (human, Material, intellectual and financial) at the GTO IM Durban facility, in order to deliver desired products and outcome at agreed targets.

Reporting: This Position reports to Director IM Durban plant.

Job Objectives:

  • Member of the Durban Plant Leadership Team.
  • Provide leadership to and the development of personnel within the Engineering and Maintenance department
  • Secure the right manning levels and competence needed for ME & Maintenance 
  • Manage Engineering and Maintenance KPI’s
  • Establish plant investment plans and requests
  • Manage the total product and process Project Portfolio for the plant
  • provide the maintenance strategy through the life time of plant equipment to enable sustained plant output and business continuity.
  • Planning and implementation of
    • programs for improved factory layout, tools, equipment and site infra-structure, using lean manufacturing elements and Volvo group strategies such as Volvo Operations Concept and Volvo Production System
    • assembly instructions, illustrations, assembly times, line balancing and manpower calculations
    • departmental business plan
    • programs for improved production efficiency
    • new processes and ways of working for Engineering and Maintenance
  • Customer Adaptation responsibility.
  • understand the customer adaptations required in consultation with Product and Sales Engineering.
  • Secure all parts required for the customer adaptations, included in the BOM. 
  • Maintain and consolidate the Plant Masterplan. 
  • Provide technical assistance to support Production and Quality problem solving;
  • Ensure plant and equipment is maintained to South African legislation and Volvo guidelines.
  • Plant Lead contact for Volvo Real Estates.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Policy, Workplace Health & Safety requirements, and in general take any reasonable steps and precautions to protect or minimise harm to the workplace, its employees and the environment.
  • Global responsibility
    • Take part in Global Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance networks in order to contribute to and roll out Manufacturing Engineering and Maintenance strategies.
    • Contribute for the development of global strategies & support other plants when required. 
  • Other duties as required. 

Qualification & Job Experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Engineering with minimum 10 years of experience in Maintenance & Manufacturing Engineering, of which 3-5 years was spent in leadership position.
  • MBA or relevant business degree will be an added advantage.
