Post Office to stop social grant cash payments. In the recent announcements, Postbank stated this week that from April 2024 social grant reciptients will no longer be able to withdraw their social grants at any ATM or one of the retailers that pay Sassa grants such as Boxer, Pick N Pay, Spar, Shoprite, Usave and Checkers.

Beneficiaries of social grant who are currently using the cash withdrawal systems and CPPs will now be required to use their Sassa Gold Cards to withdraw money at approved retail points or bank ATMs.

”Sassa gold card social grant recipients using CPPs and Post Office branches must now use those cards at any place that accepts a bank card. This includes making purchases in any retailer that has a point of sale to swipe for goods or withdrawing funds from any retailer that provides a cash-back functionality.”

Sassa says this changes will not affect many social grant beneficiaries. It was reported that according to Postbank approximately 98% of grant beneficiaries already receive their money via National Payment System channels.

Postbank says “the transition will be implemented in a proper manner”.

“The aim is to ensure continuity in the payments for everyone, and that every person is paid their grant in the most efficient, safe, secure, reliable and convenient manner.”
