South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have confirmed and announced grant payment dates for March 2024. In this article, we will discuss payment dates for Child Support, Old Age and Disability grant.
Which social grant pays first?
According to SASSA, The Older Persons Grant is the first to be paid, and beneficiaries can expect their payment on Tuesday, 5 March 2024.
The Older Persons Grant, formerly known as the old age pension, is a monthly payment provided to South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees who are 60 years or older and do not receive any other social grant. As of October 2023, the grant amount is R2,090 per month for individuals aged 60 to 74, and R2,110 per month for those over 75 years old.

- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 5 March 2024.
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 6 March 2024.
- Children’s Grants: Thursday, 7 March 2024.
SASSA SRD Grant Payment date for March
The SASSA SRD R350 grant payment dates for March 2024 are as follows:
- Start Date: 23 March 2024
- End Date: 29 March 2024.

What’s next from SASSA
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana have announced during the Budget Speech delivered in Cape Town on Wednesday that Social grants are expected to increase to keep in line with inflation and improve access for eligible beneficiaries.

It’s important to note that this does not include the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) also known as the R350 grant
“Work is currently underway to improve the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant by April this year. National Treasury will work with the Department of Social Development in ensuring that improvements in this grant are captured in the final regulations”, he said.
The new amounts for social grants will be effective from April 2024.
