Sassa dealing with grant payment glitches for August 2023

Sassa dealing with grant payment glitches for August 2023.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) says it is facing challenges in ensuring timely grant payments for August 2023. Recipients of government grants are experiencing glitches in the payment system, causing anxiety and financial stress for many vulnerable individuals and families. As a result, SASSA is under pressure to resolve these issues promptly and efficiently.

Despite their best efforts to streamline their processes, SASSA has encountered unforeseen obstacles in the payment system, leading to delays and frustrations amongst grant recipients. With August being a critical month for many individuals who rely on these grants, the situation is garnering significant attention. SASSA recognizes the urgency of the matter and assures the public that they are actively working to rectify the payment glitches as quickly as possible.

Sassa confirmed that all grants, including the SRD R350 payment, will be paid on August 2, 3 and 4. However, this did not happen especially for the Social relief of Distress grant.

“There is no fixed payment date for the Special Covid-19 SRD grant. Your application will be reviewed monthly to ensure you are still eligible. If you are still eligible for that month’s payment, you will be paid monthly.” said Sassa.

Speaking to Newzroom Africa, Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi said the agency is ready to pay the beneficiaries on time. He said there is a backlog in Sassa which has led to delays in the payment of social grants. “The delay was because we assess applicants every month to check that their conditions have not changed.”

The agency is collaborating with their technical teams and relevant stakeholders to identify the root cause of the problem and implement necessary measures for a seamless payment experience. While SASSA continues to investigate and address the issue, they emphasize their commitment to ensuring that those who rely on government grants receive the financial support they deserve.
