R350 SASSA Grant will rise to R370 in April according to latest announcements from the Minister of Finance.

It’s no longer just a circulating story, Enoch Godongwana have confirmed during the National Assembly on Wednesday that the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) will be increased with R20, from R350 to the proposed R370 (which is the addition of 5.7%).

The SASSA grant popularly known as the R350 grant is now expected to be raised to R370 from April this year. The Department of Social Development in partnership with South African Social Security Agency continues to distribute social grants to many eligible individuals.

This was announced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in the National Assembly on Wednesday.

President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his State of the Nation Address, have mentioned that the (SRD grant) is going to continue, and the R350 will be improved. ”My colleague, the Minister of Social Development, is going to publish for comments a comprehensive social security programme and that will define a better platform and a future for the social security net in South Africa”.

Godongwana on R350 grant

“I am pleased to say that we have found consensus that in between, subject to the finalisation of the comprehensive social security programme, we’ll increase the R350 to R370 by the 1st of April this year. That is part of the progressive realisation of the basic rights of our people,” he said.
