The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is the government student bursary and loan scheme that receives its funding budget from, and reports to the Department of Higher Education and Training.

The bursary is there to help if you are struggling financially in your studies.

How to upload NSFAS documents in 2024

To submit NSFAS documents in 2024, follow these steps:

  • On your browser, visit www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab.
  • Then create a myNSFAS account.
  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and complete the sections on the screen.
  • Upload required supporting documents where applicable.
  • Click on ‘Submit’

Documents Needed For NSFAS Application

In order for your application to be processed, you need to attach the following documents:

  • Certified copy of your Identity Document. If you are younger than 16 years of age, and do not have a green bar-coded ID or smart ID card, you must submit a certified copy of your unabridged birth certificate.
  • Certified copy of Identity Document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
  • Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results. If you are currently in Grade 12, you do not need to submit this.

If you have been exempted from paying school fees, please provide a letter from the school informing NSFAS that you have been exempted. For any additional documents required, NSFAS will contact you via email of your application is considered.
