To undergo training, perform work and undertake projects and tasks as a Learner Technician in
relevant technical areas.
Essential Requirements
Completed the theoretical requirements, namely the S4, of the National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Engineering from a University of Technology accredited by the Council for Higher Education.
Pass a proficiency test set by the department to prove sufficient general knowledge of electrical and or electronic engineering fundamentals.

Practical experience in the electrical and or electronic engineering field. Special
Key Responsibility Areas
Develop an understanding of safe working procedures .
Know how to use hand tools and power tools.
Undertake fault findings.
Know how to install, operate and maintain motor/generators and allied control systems.
Develop a good understanding of lighting and illumination systems, control gear allied to such
equipment, terminology, symbols, diagrms, types, connections and control gear.
Undertake electrical installation work.
Understand energy management principles.
Develop an understanding of programmable logical controllers (PLCs).
Undertake training in basic welding.
Participate actively in practical field work, such as cable jointing, overhead line construction
and substation construction.
Acquire the knowledge of battery chargers, battery banks and battery systems.
