The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the official social grant payment dates for June 2026. Beneficiaries receiving the Older Person’s Grant, Disability Grant and Children’s Grant are encouraged to take note of the payment schedule to plan ahead.
SASSA payments are usually made in a staggered manner to reduce long queues and pressure at pay points, retailers, ATMs and banking platforms.
SASSA Payment Dates for June 2026
| Grant Type | Payment Date |
|---|---|
| Older Person’s Grant | Tuesday, 2 June 2026 |
| Disability Grant | Wednesday, 3 June 2026 |
| Children’s Grant | Thursday, 4 June 2026 |
Beneficiaries do not need to withdraw their money on the exact payment day. Once the grant has been paid into an account, the money will remain available until it is withdrawn.
SASSA Urges Beneficiaries to Plan Ahead
Grant recipients are advised to avoid unnecessary queues by checking their balance before visiting payment points. Beneficiaries can access their money through bank accounts, ATMs, participating retailers and other approved payment channels.
Those who experience payment issues should contact SASSA or visit their nearest local office for assistance.
SASSA Grant Reviews Saving Government Millions
SASSA has also confirmed that its ongoing social grant review process is helping to prevent irregular payments. According to the agency, the intensified review process is saving the government approximately R44 million per month, which amounts to about R0.5 billion annually.
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou said the review process was introduced at the start of the 2025/2026 financial year to strengthen the reliability, effectiveness and integrity of the social assistance system.
Matlou explained that the reviews are aimed at ensuring that social grants are paid only to qualifying beneficiaries, while reducing fraud, misuse of public funds and wasteful expenditure.
Why SASSA Is Reviewing Social Grants
The grant review process is designed to confirm whether beneficiaries still meet the requirements for the grants they receive. This may include checking personal details, income information, life status and other eligibility criteria.
SASSA says the goal is not to unfairly remove beneficiaries, but to protect the social grant system and make sure public funds reach the people who need support the most.
Biometric Enrolment for New Grant Applications
As part of efforts to modernise its services, SASSA has introduced compulsory biometric enrolment for all new social grant applications.
This means new applicants may be required to complete identity verification using biometric details. The system is intended to improve security, prevent duplicate applications and reduce fraudulent claims.
e-Life Certification Now Available
SASSA has also introduced life certification for selected beneficiaries. This process helps the agency confirm that beneficiaries are still alive and eligible to receive payments.
To make the process easier, SASSA has introduced a self-service platform known as e-Life Certification, allowing some beneficiaries to complete life certification remotely without visiting a SASSA office.
SASSA Plans More Online Services
Matlou said SASSA plans to progressively make the social grant review process available through self-service platforms. This is expected to improve accessibility, reduce long queues at local offices and make it easier for beneficiaries to complete important processes.
The move forms part of SASSA’s broader plan to improve service delivery, strengthen controls and make the grant system more convenient for millions of South Africans.
Important Reminder for Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries should make sure their personal details are updated with SASSA and respond quickly if they are contacted for a grant review. Failure to complete a required review may affect future payments.
SASSA beneficiaries should also be careful of scams and avoid sharing their ID numbers, bank details or personal information with unknown people.
