Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Adult Education and Training (AET/ABET) Level 3 or equivalent Grade 10
- Basic Life Support will be an added advantage
- Knowledge and understanding of Batho Pele Principles
- Knowledge of the Six Priorities
- Ability to communicate well with patients, visitors, staff, and stakeholders
- Good customer care and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle conflict professionally
- Sound verbal and written communication skills
- Report writing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to plan, organize, and perform duties under pressure
- High level of reliability and self-motivation
- Ability to act with tact and discretion
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects when required
- Knowledge of regulations and the legislative framework related to Patient Affairs
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and extended hours
- Willingness to undergo medical surveillance as part of the job requirements
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with general courtesy officer and queue management duties at the hospital.
Main duties include:
- Assist the supervisor with general courtesy officer functions
- Manage queues into the hospital and waiting areas in a professional and friendly manner
- Welcome patients and visitors on arrival
- Direct clients to the correct queues, service points, or departments
- Maintain order in waiting areas
- Provide information to clients while they are waiting
- Assist with the flow of patients within the hospital
- Conduct health talks for waiting patients when required
- Oversee or assist at the helpdesk
- Handle relevant queries and complaints professionally
- Ensure cleanliness of equipment and the working environment
- Prepare equipment and areas for re-use in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Provide clean cups for drinking water
- Check the environment for broken equipment and report issues
- Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor
