Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 / NQF Level 5 Higher Certificate or equivalent qualification. Candidates must also have at least 3 years of relevant cleaning experience.

The Department is looking for a responsible and motivated person with basic knowledge of cleaning-related legislative frameworks, hospital cleaning processes, Batho Pele Principles, the Patient Rights Charter, Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, and the Ideal Hospital Framework.

Applicants must be able to work under pressure, communicate well, organise and plan duties effectively, handle confidential information, and work both independently and as part of a team. Basic computer literacy is also required.

Candidates must be willing to work shifts, including after-hours, night duty, weekends, and public holidays.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and monitoring institutional cleaners during both day and night shifts.

Main duties include:

  • Supervising cleaners and ensuring attendance registers are signed.
  • Monitoring absenteeism, late coming, tea times, and early departures.
  • Ensuring cleaners wear name tags and proper uniforms daily.
  • Applying Batho Pele Principles and maintaining professionalism.
  • Implementing corrective measures where necessary.
  • Assisting with labour relations processes.
  • Controlling leave forms and submitting them to the next-level supervisor.
  • Conducting daily walkabouts to monitor cleaning standards.
  • Completing daily production sheets and submitting reports.
  • Holding weekly and monthly meetings with cleaners.
  • Ensuring cleaning equipment is available and safely kept.
  • Making sure cleaners attend training when required.
  • Assisting with cleaning duties during staff shortages or emergencies.
  • Reporting broken resources and completing repair forms.
  • Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
  • Performing any other duties allocated by the supervisor.
