The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially announced the grant payment dates for January 2026.

“Older Persons Grants will be paid from the 6th January 2026. Old Age Grant beneficiaries receiving Child Support Grants and Foster Care Grants will also be able to access the linked children grants on the same day.”
“They will be followed by people with Disabilities on the 07th January 2026 including grants linked to this account. All other grants will be paid from the 08th January 2026,” the agency said in a statement.
Beneficiaries are encouraged to open their own bank accounts with any bank of their choice. SASSA says this will assist them to take ownership of their funds and collection.
Payments for beneficiaries who were approved for the month of January 2026 will be processed from January 25 to 31, 2026.
“SASSA/SAPO card can still be used as a debit card at ATM’s and counters of different merchants such as SPAR, Checkers, Shoprite, Boxer, Pick n Pay, Cambridge, and others,” the agency explained.
Grant beneficiaries are also reminded to always keep their card and PIN safe, and not to share their pin with anyone.
