Animal and Plant Production Learnerships 2024 At Department of Agriculture and Rural Development

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is offering the 2023 Animal and Plant Production Learnership at NQF Level 04. This program provides an opportunity to acquire skills, knowledge, and workplace experience in the field of Animal and Plant Production, along with a stipend of R4364.33 for the twelve-month duration of the Learnership.

Program Overview:

  • Closing Date: The application deadline is October 31, 2023.
  • This learnership program leads to the Further Education and Training Certificate (FET) at NQF Level 04 in Animal and Plant Production.

About the Learnership:

  • The learnership is comprised of 30% theoretical work and instructional learning, along with 70% workplace learning.
  • The program is intended to contribute to addressing skills shortages in South Africa.
  • It is based on a legal agreement between the employer, learners, and the training service provider.
  • The program consists of:
    • Theory: A 30% intensive structural learning theory component.
    • Workplace training: A 70% workplace learning phase that takes place at DARD facilities. During this phase, learners will continue to receive a stipend.
  • Learners are responsible for their own accommodation, meals, and transport during the program. The employer does not provide a pension fund, housing allowance, housing subsidy, medical aid, or overtime during theoretical and practical training.
  • Learners will be considered competent after successfully completing the instructional learning phase, workplace learning phase, final submission of a Portfolio of Evidence (POE), and external verification by AgriSeta.
  • Any contravention or deviation from the learnership agreement during the twelve-month period will be addressed by the DARD in accordance with sections 17 and 18 of the Skills Development Act 97 of 1998.

After successful completion of the learnership and the FET Certificate in Animal/Plant production, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development does not guarantee employment.

Requirements: To be eligible for this learnership program, applicants must meet the following basic requirements:

  • South African citizens who are in possession of Standard 10/Grade 12 and have passed English, Maths, and Natural Science.
  • South African citizens who have completed NQF Level 3 in Animal/Plant Production.
